Her Story
The Agatha Ama Awotwe Ghansah Memorial Library was created in hopes of helping redirect the path of the children (especially girls) living in Bokoro, Ghana. This library aspires to be a channel through which children of the village are allowed to realize and explore their untapped potential in an environment where intellectual development is encouraged. Exposing these children to worlds beyond the village would inspire them to set their sights high and never to know their limits—an opportunity not offered to Agatha Ghansah.
In Memory of Agatha Ama Awotwe Ghansah
1941 – 2015
Agatha Ama Awotwe Ghansah was a life long learner and community leader who believed in the transformative power of education. Her legacy lives on through our mission to provide quality educational resources and literacy programs to underserved communities in Ghana.
Through the AAAGML, we continue her vision of empowering children and adults through access to books, learning materials, and educational opportunities that can change lives and strengthen communities.
Born in 1941, Agatha understood the value of education from her own experiences. Unfortunately, she faced limitations in her own educational journey—opportunities that were not available to women of her generation in rural Ghana. Despite these challenges, she remained a passionate advocate for learning throughout her life.
Her dream was to ensure that future generations, especially young girls, would have access to the educational opportunities she was denied. She believed that education was the key to breaking cycles of poverty and creating lasting change in communities.
Today, the library that bears her name serves as a testament to her unwavering belief in the power of knowledge. Every book read, every child tutored, and every young mind inspired continues her legacy of hope and transformation.
Agatha Ama Awotwe Ghansah passed away in 2015, but her vision lives on. Through the memorial library, we honor her memory by providing the educational opportunities she dreamed of for generations to come.
